Tony Twitchett of Taxi Kitchen

Tony Twitchett’s food philosophy stems from his upbringing in rural North West Victoria, where eating seasonal and local has always happened. Tony discovered his passion for food by preparing family meals with his three elder brothers, all chefs and his Mum who was also an accomplished cook. It was a time when what you ate was what you had grown, harvested or fished.

At the age of 17, he moved to Melbourne to join his chef brothers Paul and Peter at Royal Arcade restaurant Luciano’s, before starting an apprenticeship at Stokehouse and meeting his culinary inspiration Michael Lambie.

Tony’s travels in Asia have inspired his love of those eponymous flavour profiles.

Tony has been at Taxi Kitchen as Executive chef and has shaped the food offering for twelve years, developing an incredibly passionate and talented team. The Taxi alumni are spread across Melbourne and the world and his signature is now across Transit Rooftop Bar, Taxi Riverside, as well as Taxi Kitchen, shaping the very soul of what we do.

Despite training in traditional European cooking techniques, Tony’s breadth of experience in the different cuisines of the world has led to him continuing his signature gastronomic style embracing Contemporary Australian ideals.
